Of The Body Video Exhibit, 7.21.10 (6-8pm) & 7.31.10 (6-8pm)
Curated by Vanessa Albury
In an age of facebook, youtube and avatars that project a person out of the physical and into the virtual, Cinema Lucida’s Of the Body presents works that bring the viewer and the artist back to his/ her own body. Of the Body presents contemporary and avant-garde film and video artists whose works bring the viewers to an awareness of their bodies and works that are determined by the artist's body. From Maya Deren’s visual rhythms of a body moving through a collage of spaces to David Matorin’s return to the fragile physicality of the body of David Koresh’s dangerous mind to Kate Gilmore’s small triumph in bringing her body to the viewer, Of the Body confronts the viewer with his or her own body and surveys the various relationships of a body to the world around it. We are excited to also present Amelia Winger-Bearskin in a live performance for Of the Body at Open Lot Nashville.
About Cinema Lucida:
Cinema Lucida is a film and video screening project that presents moving image as lucid dreams or parallel realities. We are interested in the mental space a viewer enters while watching, and in the creation of an internal dialog with the artist through that space. Cinema Lucida presents moving image as a threshold between the imagined world and the physical one. Our goal is to challenge the viewer’s relationship to moving image and to create an active viewing experience where the viewer and the cinema are in dialog together. We are also committed to bringing avant-garde and contemporary film and video artists' works to a wider audience, to expand the cinematic conversation.
Featured artists include Bas Jan Ader, Vanessa Albury, Peter Clough, Sue De Beer, Maya Deren, Kate Gilmore, Rachel Mason, David Matorin, Adie Russell, Amelia Winger Bearskin and more. www.cinemalucida.com coming soon...
