OPEN LOT NASHVILLE
Open Lot is a collaborative studio, venue and exhibition space in downtown Nashville.
MISSION
As an exhibition space and venue, we showcase compelling contemporary work that is underrepresented in Nashville. By featuring a diverse cross-section of work, Open Lot simultaneously embraces individual specialization and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Open Lot fosters interdisciplinary collaboration as a studio. There are currently twelve members with backgrounds in architecture, music, photography, painting, sculpture, and printmaking. By sharing the insights, theories, and techniques of their respective disciplines, studio members gain broader understanding and amass artistic and intellectual tools.
HISTORY
Open Lot began in October 2007, when we moved into our charter space, a converted yeast factory in downtown Saint Louis, Missouri. Six recent art and architecture graduates of Washington University in St. Louis began holding open forum meetings and potluck-style dinners in the studio space to talk about art, theory, and culture in Saint Louis. We found that what was needed as urgently as a new alternative art space was a community and network of artists and arts-minded organizations.
